First World War

If you are writing a letter from the trenches, either for English or history, it is worth your while reading through some of the letters on this website. You should be able to improve your understanding of the war and be able to empathise more with the people of the time.

You could include the events of Christmas Day 1914 if you so wanted. This clip is a song made in 1983 by Paul McCartney. Obviously not entirely accurate but it will give you a flavour. The website above would be more useful.

…and why is Remembrance Sunday so important?

This a clip that I show for the two minute silence in class…

To put a modern perspective on warfare and Remembrance Day, this clip shows Canadian soldiers past and present remembering. A sad song and sad images but the message is clear. The day is not for just for those in the Great War.
